To design a bar and lounge for Marble 8 at No.1, Jalan Nipah, Kampung Berembang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This project aims at elevating Marble 8’s overall design, as it lacks the edge and originality in its interior design. I found that the current interior looks dated and doesn’t appeal to the millennial generation.

Marble is a metamorphic rock created when sedimentary carbonate rock is exposed to extreme heat and pressure, causing crystallization. The worlds’ best marble comes from volcanic areas. I was inspired by the creation of marble for my Concept. The marble grain reminds me of cracks in the surface of the earth with the larva bursting through the gaps of a volcano.

The client, Sir Modesto Marini­­­ received his “Knighthood” in Italy in 2016.  Knighthood is awarded to people who have accomplished great things or shown act of honor or nobility in Italy. I was inspired by traditional Knight Armor and swords, since it could represent the powerful men using the space. Strong and hard like the volcano. Also steel armor is cast using extreme heat just like the natural rock, used to protect the earth, like armor protects the man.

The use of modern materials, glazed metal, mirrors, glossy marbles gives the space a clean luxury appearance. The cracked diamond pieces with red lighting show the concept of volcano and emphasize boldness.
